Motorcycle – Australian Sales Rise in 2016
Australia’s motorcycle, scooter and all-terrain vehicle sales have never been so great as in the last seven years. Indeed, all industries show a growth sales result up 6.6% compared to 2015.
With a total of 114, 783 units sold, the industry increase is doing well with a first place for Honda, holding 22.9% of the market. Close behind is Yamaha (21.7%) then Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson and Suzuki.
Yamaha maintain its solid lead in the off-road category, selling 30.5% of the total sales while Harley Davidson took the 1st position in the road bike segment with 21.5% of the market, followed by Honda who took 20.2 % in off-road and 24.8% in road bikes, competing in both categories.
The scooter segment slightly declined in popularity with less than 4 500 units sold last year. (Down 11% for 2015).
So, it is not surprising to see Brisbane City Council introducing new motorcycle parking.
In the last few years, we have seen a third of the 600 motorcycle spaces disappear because of construction development.
The council had determined 4 priorities to allow for the increase in motorcycle parking: “94 new spaces in total – 37 in North Quay, 10 in Albert Street, 24 in Kurilpa Park at South Brisbane and William Street, 23 between Elizabeth Street and the Victoria Bridge.”
